CCD What is a CCD®?
Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD®) accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), is a professional designation awarded to individuals who meet specified knowledge requirements measured through a standardized testing process for the interpretation of bone densitometry (offered in the U.S. and internationally).

Who can take the CCD® Exam?
Certification is open to clinicians who interpret bone densitometry examinations and includes: physicians, certified nurse practitioners, certified physician assistants, fellows, residents and Ph.D.’s. performing research in the field of bone density.

How can I become a CCD®?
Clinicians must pass the ISCD Clinician Certification Exam to become certified as a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD®).

What if I do not pass the CCD® exam?
You can register to re-take the exam but must wait 30 days from your fail date to re-test. To re-take the exam, please contact ISCD for a re-examination application. This application may ONLY be used if you are applying for re-examination because you did NOT pass the examination and you are applying to sit for the exam within one year from the original failed exam date.

How long is the CCD® certification valid?
The CCD® certification is valid for five (5) years.

CBDT What is a CBDT®?
Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist (CBDT®) accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), is a professional certification in the field of bone densitometry for technologists who perform bone densitometry scans.

Who can take the CBDT® exam?
Any technologist who performs human bone densitometry scans and meets the eligibility requirements as specified in the CBDT® Handbook

How can I become a CBDT®?
The technologist must pass the ISCD Technologist Certification Exam to become certified as a Certified Bone Densitometrist Technologist (CBDT®).

What if I do not pass the CBDT® exam?

Certification Appeals
ISCD is committed to allowing candidates the opportunity to appeal decisions during the professional credentialing process. ISCD staff and the ISCD Certification Council are responsible for handling all appeals and requests in a confidential, timely and fair manner. Every effort is made to ensure that the ISCD examination procedures are reasonable and that fair and equitable treatment is accorded to all applicants. To ensure fairness and a right of redress in the evaluation and processing of applications, examination procedures, and certification activities, the ISCD Certification Council has established a formal appeals procedure which you must follow for an appeal of ISCD’s policies, requirements, or decisions. All decisions and actions shall be transmitted in writing and shall contain a brief notice of the right of appeal. For Appeal instructions and form.

OVERALL How many times can I sit for the ISCD exam?
A candidate may sit for the exam up to three times within one year from the original failed exam date. Thereafter, if they are still unsuccessful in passing the exam, the candidate must show documentation of an additional 12 hours of CME Category 1 or Category A CE credits in the field of bone densitometry, osteoporosis or metabolic bone disease in order to meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the exam again.

How do I cancel my scheduled exam or transfer to the next available testing window? You may cancel or reschedule an examination appointment within the same calendar year if your cancellation notice is received 48 hours prior to the scheduled examination by 4pm. *Note: A voice mail message is not an acceptable form of cancellation. ISCD Exam Cancellation, Transfer, No Show Policy

  • Cancellation fee is $75.00
  • Transfer to the next calendar year fee is $25.00.
    • No Show’s for scheduled exams will not be refunded or transferrable. The examinee will have to submit a new application to sit for the exam.

* TRANSFERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED MORE THAN ONE YEAR FROM ORIGINAL TEST DATE What happens when ISCD receives my application?

  1. You will receive notice within 5 business days.
    • If you have provided adequate information and payment you will receive a receipt of payment and a confirmation email.
    • If we are unable to process your application, we will attempt to contact you. Your application will be sent back unprocessed if we are unable to reach you or we are unable to receive appropriate information in a timely manner.
  2. The ISCD will send you an email with your candidate ID#, PSI will send you an email from schedule@goamp.com to set up your appointment.
  3. You must contact PSI to setup your exam date and time once you receive your email from PSI.

Where Can I take the ISCD Certification Exam?
The certification exam is offered throughout the year at PSI Testing Centers globally, as well as specified paper & pencil locations.

How do I find a PSI test center?
Information on how to register at a PSI test center will be included with your letter of acceptance to sit for the examination. How do I obtain a copy of my ISCD Certificate?
A certificate reprint request form must be completed and returned to ISCD with payment information.
